Seasonal Allergies Treatment

Do you suffer from seasonal allergies (hay fever), and the symptoms caused from them, such as itchy, watery, red eyes, sneezing, runny nose and nasal congestion? Portland Allergy and Asthma can help you find relief by identifying the cause of your allergies and providing treatment.

Seasonal allergies develop when your immune system overreacts to something in the environment, usually when plants pollinate. Portland’s pollen season runs from February to September. In the late winter and spring, trees are usually responsible for seasonal allergies while summer and fall sniffles are usually triggered by grasses or weeds.

Even allergies to indoor allergens can appear seasonal in nature, since the allergen levels will vary with environmental conditions like temperature and humidity. It could be that you are reacting to a different allergen each season, or perhaps the source of your seasonal allergies is mold, which is most prevalent from July through early autumn, or dust mites, which are present year- round in every household.

If you suffer from asthma, you’re more likely to suffer from hay fever, or seasonal allergies as well. And allergy induced asthma is the most common type of asthma, affecting about 60 percent of people with asthma. Seasonal allergy triggers can successfully be controlled with allergy shots.

Allergy shots are a long-term solution for people with seasonal allergies. They can also decrease or stop symptoms for year-round indoor allergies, like mold, dust mites, and pet dander as well as venom or stinging insect allergies.  Contact Portland Allergy and Asthma at 971/358-5600 and see for yourself why Dr. Fritz’s patients consider him to be Portland’s best allergist.
